Curfew
Is it really a bad thing? As teenagers grow up and become closer to an adult, they feel that curfews are sometimes unnecessary. Although, some people see curfews as something that helps society.
There are many viewpoints on having curfews or adult authority actually implementing these rules. Having or not having curfews affects a teenager’s behavior.
“I think having curfews would prevent bad behavior by making sure everyone is inside their house at night” said, Josiah Marshall Sophomore student.
He went on to say that most people are at work and school during the day, so they can not commit crimes during the day. Having curfews makes the crimes committed at night go down.
“Having curfews helps kids from getting into trouble late at night. They will not make irresponsible choices that they would regret later. People have a tendency to do things they would not do in the day at nighttime” said, Candace Smith Sophomore student.
Marshall and Smith both had a similar perspective on how curfews prevent behavioral issues. Being teenagers themselves they give great incite on how the teenage mind may think. Adult minds and teenage minds vary because adults are wiser. An influential adult gave her thoughts on how curfews prevent bad behavior and her responses were surprisingly different from the teenagers.
“ I do not think having curfews prevents bad behavior. In my estimation, people will say, think, and do whatever they want; to whomever they want; in the way they want ; irrespective of the time of the day” said, Dr. Perry CMHS Health teacher.
Hearing this response from an adult perspective is very surprising but an intellectual point of view.
Curfews are implemented to make society better for young adults. Marshall and Dr. Perry both agree on this topic.
“ Curfews are put in place to prevent juvenile crime and protect youth from victimization” Said Marshall.
“ I think curfews are implemented because teens tend to stay out of trouble more because criminal activity or high-risk behavior is more likely to occur in the evening when parental supervision is not apparent” said Dr. Perry.
Curfews are very important in our society. They should be taken very seriously, no matter the viewpoints people have.
