Expressing emotions through the art of poetry. Poetry is known as a rhythmic language that penetrates the imagination with its words. People speak through their writings with profound words. When you are into this type of art, you are able to discern the deep-seated stories that people are telling about their everyday lives or even experiences.

“For my purposes, poetry is a heightened sense of language. I like the Robert Frost’s suggestion that poet is not a profession; it is a condition in one. Poetry could be thought of as an idiomatic use of language itself. Or maybe it is a desperate attempt to make words suggest things we know are well beyond the potential of words” said, African American poet, artist and professor Jeffrey Daniels.

“I do not really get inspired to write poetry, it is just anything that comes to mind. When I have an idea I stop what I’m doing and write what I’m thinking” said, Sophomore Sanaia Jenkins.

Some people who enjoy poetry do not have an inspiration to write. While others have a lot of inspiration.

“For me, that is often making records of how I feel or what I perceive at a moment throughout the day. I carry a small notebook around with me and jot down random thoughts. Although, I’m often moved to write poetry when other modes of writing fail to express an idea effectively. Sometimes I even write poems to make ideas and feelings to more clear to myself” said Daniels.

“Situations that happen in my life on a day to day basis inspires me to write” said, sophomore Brooke Simmons.

There are multiple ways that poetry writers get their inspiration to tell a beautiful story. This art gives the privilege to others to see more of a person, how exquisite that their words can be.

“ If I could express anything, I would hope to connect my perceptions and questions to another in an efficient and effective way. What exactly may I express may change from moment to moment, but I think the ultimate goal of any artistic expression is to communicate to another in ways outside everyday conversation” said, Daniels.

Students in our school feel that poetry is hard to do or they say they do not like expressing their feelings. Poetry is a great and creative way to express your thoughts and feelings through writing.
